Salon is situated between Alpilles, the Camargue and the Aix-Marseille in the south of France. It is an ideal destination for shopping as it has a large town centre made up of small exclusive shops including ladies' fashion, perfumes, childrens' clothes and local produce. Every Wednesday there is a large market which sells typical local products, and is renown for its displays of regional textiles. There is a variety of hotels to chose from all offering good quality accommodation at reasonable prices. The town is overlooked by the Chateau Musee de L'Emperi which stands on the highest point and now serves as a museum. It is well worth a visit to see the large collection of French military uniforms and artefacts. Salon is one of the oldest towns in Provence and is the birthplace of Nostradamus, where his house is now a museum. Each room depicts various stages of his which is complimented by sound and light. The commentary is available in English. The olive tree is common place in this region and has always been part of Salon's tradition, as is the manufacturing of olive oil and soap. These are naturally part of the town's culture. So if you imagine sitting outside a bar watching the hustle and bustle on a French market day then Salon is the place for you.
